The Bulgarian BBMRI node is based at the Molecular Medicine Centre (MMC), Medical University of Sofia, which has been an associated member of BBMRI-ERIC since 2009. MMC was established as a collaborative, multidisciplinary research centre in Medical University – since 2005 and their Biobanking Core Facility hosts collections of biological materials and data, gathered mainly through research projects on human diseases. As a national node, MMC is mapping the biobanking activities and biological resources collection across the country with the aim to establish national biobanking research infrastructure, supporting high-quality research in the field of translational and precision medicine which has a great impact on the healthcare system in Bulgaria.
